About this Event

An extension program organized by the Department of Community Science , Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya, at "Amar ghor " old age home in Tinsukia on 6th September 2025. The program aimed to utilize the skills of students and faculty to improve the well-being of the elderly residents through educational, nutritional, and recreational activities. The initiative provided students with practical, real-world experience in community engagement while addressing the specific needs of the senior citizens. Objectives: The primary objectives of the extension program were to: Provide health and hygiene awareness, including sanitation practices. Organize recreational and engaging activities to foster a sense of community and combat loneliness. Program activities: The program was divided into several key activities, executed by faculty and students based on their areas of specialization within Community Science. Educational sessions were held on the importance of a balanced diet for maintaining health in old age. Health and wellness initiative: Awareness campaigns were conducted on personal health and hygiene, including the importance of clean surroundings. Recreational and cultural engagement: Students performed cultural programs, including singing and dancing, to entertain the residents. Students spent time with residents, listening to their stories and life experiences, which fostered a positive and supportive environment. The interactive sessions helped create a sense of belonging and value for the senior citizens. Some amount of food items and essentials were given to the elderly at the old-age home to support their health and well-being. The extension programme was carried out with the initiatives of the department faculties Dr. Smita Rani Saikia, Ms. Ankita Saikia and Dr. Kalyani Konch along with the students
